Welcome!
Conducting is a holistic artform that synthesizes many different elements, including physical gesture, score study, rehearsal technique, pedagogy, music history/historical performance practice, and more. Conducting training isn't just useful for people who want to make a career as a conductor–it's a useful set of skills for teachers, solo performers, song leaders, and anyone curious about the "inner workings" of music.
The content of your private lessons will be tailored to your specific background, goals, and interests. Lessons are typically scheduled for 1 hour weekly, although length/frequency are flexible depending on your needs.

LIFT! Studio Cohort
"...if you want to go far, go together."
LIFT! celebrates that conductors are, first and foremost, human beings.
In addition to individualized training, studying with LIFT! connects you to a peer network for professional support and camaraderie. Davis-area studio members have regular opportunities to conduct each other in a supportive masterclass setting, while all studio members have opportunities to connect virtually on a regular basis. Regular studio cohort meetings provide a space for members to give and receive support around their current challenges/successes. Additional studio cohort events may include roundtable discussions, guest speakers, social events, or other opportunities depending on cohort (your!) interests.

Lesson Fee Structure
The base fee for conducting lessons is $100/hour. This rate is the lowest I can currently charge while maintaining sustainability in my professional life, and it is already significantly discounted from typical fees for similar private lessons. This low base fee is intended to make studying conducting outside of academia as accessible as possible. A limited number of reduced-fee scholarships are available (primarily reserved for BIPOC and trans/nonbinary students).
If you are financially capable, I invite you to help subsidize reduced-fee scholarships by choosing your own rate above the base fee. Thank you for your generosity!
If you are interested in making a single-time donation, please contact me to discuss.
Studio cohort events are free to all current students.
